Buckling Restrained Braces (BRB’s)

Buckling Restrained Braces are currently being promoted as a new revolution in the seismic strengthening of existing and new buildings, as an aftermath of the devastating Christchurch earthquake. Grayson Engineering is partnering with the National Centre for Research on Earthquake Engineering (NCREE) in Taiwan for the promotion and fabrication of Buckling Restrained Braces (BRB's) in New Zealand.

The BRB can be viewed as a high-efficiency energy dissipation device as it can dissipate the earthquake energy through its development of the full yield strength in both tension and compression.

A typical BRB commonly consists of a core member and a buckling restrainer, separated by an unbonding layer.
